Welcome to BTD Photo — my little corner of the internet where caffeine, sideline dust, and shutter clicks all come together. Many years ago, I watched my dad pick up a SLR camera and swap lenses like he was defusing a bomb in an action movie. Ten‑year‑old me thought it was the coolest thing on Earth. I got my first camera around that age… and then promptly abandoned the hobby the moment college life appeared with its pizza, textbooks, and questionable decisions. Fast forward to my 30s: right before my daughter was born, the photography bug bit again — hard. At first it was nature photos and lots of the dog (RIP Sammy the Dog). Then it turned into me running after the kids with my camera and saying, "Can you do that for Daddy again?" and them running in the opposite direction... basically the infant version of the middle finger! Once my kids started playing sports, it hit me:
“Why did I not think of sports photography sooner?”
But, instead of the photos I went all-in on youth soccer coaching. During my multi-year spell coaching, I always appreciated the parents that shared photos. I always thought, when my kids outgrow my coaching, I’ll start the next phase photographing the sports and sharing the photos with the kids and families. My kids did outgrow my coaching abilities, and I held onto that promise to myself. I loved honing my skills capturing that unscripted, blink‑and‑you‑miss‑it moment — the kind that will never happen the exact same way again — is a ridiculously cool feeling. And while I love the intensity, emotion, and “did they really just do that?” moments of sports… what I really gets me are the smiles, laughter, high‑fives, hugs, and all the chaotic joy that comes with team camaraderie. Those little in‑between moments are the heartbeat of sports (and what I miss the most from my playing days), and getting to freeze them in time is something I never take for granted. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoy taking them. The feedback I’ve gotten over the years says people do enjoy the photos, so I’ll keep taking them! I, also, enjoy compliments. So, if you're enjoying the photos, feel free to make me blush from all the compliments!— Brandon
